If you are interested in a career in architecture and design with a goal of accelerating the time to graduation and career entry, the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture program provides a convenient pathway to your goals. The BA in Architecture degree can be completed in 4 years or even less time, if you choose additional course loads over summer quarters or online as part of your study plan. This degree does not prepare for architecture licensure - however the degree will prepare you to pursue the Master of Architecture I program which is a NAAB accredited, first professional degree. With a wide range of different roles and aspects of the building process, this program can open the doors to many academic options and prepares you for a variety of architecture and design-related career options

If you are interested in pursuing a career as a licensed architect, the Bachelor of Architecture program offers a curriculum that will prepare you with the credentials and knowledge you need to secure licensure in many states. This program will teach you both the foundation of the profession as well as the advanced theories and practical application of creating inspirational structures in a sustainable manner. Upon graduation, you can choose to enter the workforce or continue your educational goals through the Master of Architecture II or the Master of Architecture/Master of Construction Management Double Degree

MINOR IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Students enrolled in design programs at New School may choose a minor in Construction Management to complement their degree. Courses are offered sequentially during fall, winter and spring terms. While this course of study focuses on implementation within construction field, the knowledge, concepts and process are transferable to managing all types of projects. Students interested in pursuing a minor in Construction Management must seek approval from their Academic Advisor and Department Chair.

A minor degree will be awarded to a New School student who completes their major course of study successfully, and chooses to focus a minimum of 22 credits of their elective or additional work in a predefined series of courses. A minor degree will be reflected on both the student’s transcript and diploma.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

The Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management prepares students to enter the construction management profession working with designers, owners, and constructors. A graduate of the Construction Management program will have successfully demonstrated leadership, business management acumen, and technological understanding of the current practices and theories in Construction Management. Through coursework, community involvement, and other extracurricular activities, students will gain an appreciation for the urban environment and study methods of reusing current buildings toward a broader definition of responsible, energy-efficient practices.

GRADUATE COURSES IN ARCHITECTURE

The Master of Architecture I is a NAAB accredited, first professional degree, giving you the skills to turn your interests into practice as well as the opportunity to pursue state architecture licensure. This program offers two-year and three-year tracks, allowing you to chart the course that best fits your experience and needs. This master’s degree in architecture complements your existing skills while expanding your professional horizons as you work toward state licensure.

This studio-focused graduate program allows students to explore what it means to be an architect in today’s world. Students will have opportunities to work with real clients and can culminate their education by taking part in the thesis process. The Master of Architecture II degree was created for students seeking career advancement. This program will expand your expertise in the context, theory, and history of structural development. Designed for students already possessing a first professional degree in architecture, the Master of Architecture II builds on foundational knowledge in art and design with a program that integrates thesis-based learning and coursework to explore architecture in the context of history and theory, tectonics, urban studies, and professional practice.

From urban planning to interior design, many professions today benefit from in-depth study of architecture. If you want to enrich your knowledge of the field but don’t plan to pursue architectural licensing, consider a Master of Science in Architecture. Students with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or any other field may apply for this program. The program typically requires one to two years of full-time study to achieve 45 required credits.

If you are a licensed architect who has worked at least five years in the field and want to advance your professional knowledge and career, consider the Executive Master of Architecture Program. This NAAB-accredited architecture program will teach you a blend of theory, design, and practice that you can put to work immediately.

MASTER OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Our fully online Master of Construction Management Degree is designed to develop professionals for advanced construction management theory and practice based on an interdisciplinary foundation of science, architecture, business management, and engineering. When taken full-time, this construction management degree program can be completed at your own pace in less than one year. Note on Preparation for Licensure/Certification

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Interior Architecture & Design program and a minimum of two years practice experience, interior designers are eligible to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification exam. Upon successful completion of this exam, any local or state building codes exams and any other applicable state requirements, designers can become certified or licensed in their jurisdiction. Eligibility requirements for professional licensure vary from state to state; all students and potential applicants must check with their state for current information. NewSchool enrollment advisors can provide guidance on licensure issues; however, it remains the individual’s responsibility to understand and comply with all state licensure requirements.

The Bachelor of Arts in Product Design degree program at NewSchool of Architecture & Design prepares students for professional practice of product design in a wide range of industries.

Offered as part of the newly created Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool and in close collaboration with the prestigious graduate design school, Domus Academy in Milan, the product design program takes advantage of these relationships to position its students to become designers in a global market.

Students will learn how to design products and build strategies through a strong interdisciplinary foundation year, intensive project work and project assignments with real companies.

The Bachelor of Arts in Product Design degree program includes a study abroad opportunity at Domus Academy in Milan at no additional tuition cost.

Students pursuing a product design degree must complete 182 quarter credits, which typically requires four academic years of full-time study (based on three quarters of attendance annually).
